Situated beautifully at an altitude of 5,357m, Gokyo Lake is one of the most famous trekking destinations of the Everest/Khumbu region, Nepal. The lake is considered sacred by both Hindu and Buddhist believers. It is also very renowned for the 360-degree picturesque view of the Everest Himalayan range. Gokyo valley is the home of Nepal’s largest glacier ‘Ngozumba’ and many more glacial lakes.

Starting from the hill station of Lukla, we’ll follow the route to Everest Base Camp until reaching Namche Bazaar. Further, we’ll take detour trail towards the Gokyo valley via beautiful Sherpa villages of Phortse, Dole, Machhermo and few more. This journey has an amazing combination of eco-cultural beauty for its high rising mountain peaks and pure practices of Buddhism. Gokyo valley is arguably more beautiful and peaceful than Everest Base Camp.

Detail Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu (1,300m)

One of Trek Through team members meets you at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) and transport you to your respective hotel. You can enjoy the rest of the day in your own style. At evening we’ll organize a welcome dinner where you can enjoy authentic Nepali taste along with cultural dance presentation. (Meal: Dinner)

Day 02: Kathmandu city tour & trip preparation day

We can plan the day as per your interest. Either you can take a day rest, or you can explore the streets and UNESCO listed monuments of Kathmandu. For the city tour, you can take help of our city guide. He will take you to Buddhist stupas of Swyambunath and Boudhnath, Pashupatinath temple and Kathmandu Darbar square. At evening we’ll do pre-trip discussion and needed preparations. (Meal: Breakfast)

Day 03: Fly to Lukla (2,850 m), trek to Phakding (2,650m): 30 minutes flight, 304 hours’ trek

After early morning breakfast, we’ll take a short scenic flight to Lukla. This travel would be so dramatic while flying over the city of Kathmandu, lower green hills and high mountain peaks. Lukla is the main gateway to all parts of the Khumbu/Everest region. Trekking to Phakding village is easy through gradual up down trails. Overnight stay in a local teahouse. (Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m): 6-7 hours’ trek

From Phakding, we’d hike uphill through pine and rhododendron forest. The impressive suspension bridges over Dudh Koshi and Bhote Koshi rivers gives an absolute thrill of adventure. Walk slow and steady and follow your guide. One the way, you will see Mt. Thamserku right in front of your eyes, which is often called the most beautiful mountain in the world. We’ll set our overnight stay at Namche Bazaar. (Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 05: Acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar

Namche is the most developed town in the Everest region, with the availability of modern amenities such as ATM, internet café, supermarkets, and government offices. It is also considered as the main trading center of the Khumbu region and also the gateway to Mt. Everest. On this acclimatization day, we’ll explore this beautiful town and try to understand the cultures and traditions of local Sherpa people. We can also hike to Everest view hotel for the panoramic view of mountain peaks including Mt. Everest (8,848m). (Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 06: Trek to Dole (4100 m): 5-6 hours’ trek

Leaving the route to Everest Base Camp, we’ll trek towards the village of Dole today. This trail is full of breathtaking views of snow peaks including Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Amadablam, Thamserku and more. On the season the entire area would be so colorful by rhododendron flowers and pine trees. Overnight stay in Dole village. (Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 07: Trek to Machhermo (4,430m): 5-6 hours’ trek

Soon after the beginning of the journey, we’ll cross the high suspension bridge over Dudh Koshi River and move ahead towards the villages of Lhabarma (4,200m) and Luza (4,400m). Machhermo is a small cozy village with few teahouses. It was recorded that the first sight of Yeti was seen here in 1974. (Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 08: Trek to Gokyo Lake (4,750 m): 5-6 hours’ trek

By enjoying the stunning view of snowcapped mountains, we’ll hike forward through Dudh Koshi valley. Scattered yet beautiful Sherpa villages of Pangram and Longponga looks so decorated by Mani walls and Chortens. At high elevation, walking with constant pace is the must. Make it slow and relax. The last section of the journey could be a bit difficult as we have to trek uphill through the moraine of Ngazuma glacier. Gokyo lake is a holy place for both Hindu and Buddhist. Overnight in a local lodge. (Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner)

Day 09: Explore Gokyo valley, hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357m): 5-6 hours’ hike

For better and closer view Everest Himalayan range, we’ll set a hike to Gokyo Ri (5,357m – the highest point of our trip). Since morning hike is easier and safer in the mountain, we’ll start early and ascend to the top. Gokyo-Ri is considered one of the best viewpoints of Mt. Everest, Cho-Oyu (8,210m), Makalu (8,481m), Lhotse, Nuptse, Thamserku, Kangtega, Bancharo Peak, Gokyo Peak, Cholatse and many more. It is the moment to cherish your success. We’ll trek back to the Gokyo valley for overnight stay. (Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner)

Day 10: Trek back to Dole (4100m): 5-6 hours’ trek

Form today, we’ll repeat our way back through same the route we have taken to go up to Gokyo valley. Walk with extra care in the downhill trail. You can still enjoy the stunning mountain views and a refreshing climate all throughout the day. We’ll spend our night at Dole village. (Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner)

Day 11: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m): 5-6 hours’ trek

On this 2nd day of retracing down, we’ll complete our journey up to Namche Bazaar. The amazing charm of green hills, lush jungle, and vibes of modern society will be back today. (Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner)

Day 12: Trek to Lukla (2,850m): 5-6 hours’ trek

For the last day, we’ll trek along off the beaten path and Sherpa village. Via Phakding village, we go back to Lukla for overnight stay. This will be the last day for some of our local crew. You may want to thank and goodbye to them before they leave. (Meal: Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner)

Day 13: Fly back to Kathmandu

Taking a scheduled morning flight, fly back to Kathmandu. We’ll let you free for the rest of the day. At evening we’ll organize a dinner program and celebrate success. (Meal: Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 14: Final departure
